Special Programs

Community Partnership Enhancement Grants

General Focus: to facilitate partnerships between faculty in the arts and sciences and local community organizations in the city of Columbus or the state of Ohio.

Deadline: Applications may be submitted at any time during the academic year.

Application Process: The online application cover sheet may be completed by individual faculty/staff or a team of faculty/staff. On a first come, first served basis, applicants may apply for up to $1,000 in matching funding in support of partnerships that support federation priorities. Information provided should include:

  • A description of the partnership, including the roles that university and community members have played in its development.
  • An explanation of how the partnership advances the goals and priorities of the federation with regard to the university’s covenant with the state of Ohio. ( See President Gee’s October 4, 2007 Faculty Council Speech, “It Is About Time. . . and Change.”
  • An explanation of the partnership’s goals and how accomplishment of those goals will be evaluated
  • An implementation timeline for the specific project.
  • A detailed budget, including other funding in support of the partnership.
  • A statement of knowledge and assessment from the department chair/dean.

Submission Process: Please e-mail application cover sheet and all supporting documents to ascopportunities@osu.edu.

Funding: The expectation is that the funding will support approximately five one-time grants per year at $1,000 each.

Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed by a committee established for this purpose who will recommend proposals to the Executive Dean.

Co-Sponsorships for Conferences and Speakers

General Focus: to facilitate efforts in the arts and sciences to raise visibility for excellence in our areas and enhance the quality of our intellectual engagement.

Deadline: Applications may be submitted at any time during the academic year.

Application Process: On a first come, first served basis, departments and programs can apply for small grants as matching funding in the co-sponsorship of conferences and speakers. Applicants should submit a proposal letter that includes:

  • An explanation of the conference or program.
  • An explanation of how it supports federation priorities.
  • A timeline.
  • A detailed budget, including a specification of matching funding.
  • A statement of affirmation from the department chair/dean of the applicant(s).

Submission Process: Please e-mail your proposal letter and any supporting documents to ascopportunities@osu.edu.

Funding: Funding varies, but will not exceed $2,500, except under very special circumstances.

Selection Process: Decisions for funding will be made by the Executive Dean based on ASC priorities and the availability of funding.

Diversity Enhancement Grants

General Focus: to provide seed funding to an individual or group of individuals to develop or implement a plan to address a specific diversity problem or to continue a project which has demonstrated its potential in addressing a specific diversity problem.

Deadline: April 30. If the deadline falls on a weekend, then the proposal is due the following Monday.

Application Process: The online application cover sheet may be completed by an individual faculty/staff/student or a team of faculty/staff/students. The proposal must demonstrate a commitment to enhancing diversity through defining and confronting a specific problem related to diversity as defined by the university’s Diversity Action Plan. Information provided should:

  • Define a specific problem in the area of diversity.
  • Provide a strategic action plan with goals, actions, and evaluation measures.
  • Include an itemized budget that shows matching funding from the area(s) involved.
  • Include an implementation timeline for the project.
  • Include a letter of commitment from the lead administrator (dean, department chair, program director, advisor, etc.) stating how the project relates to the unit’s diversity plan.

Funding: A maximum of five grants at $3,000 each may be awarded.
