Undergraduate Students
Grants
1) International Travel Grants
General Focus: to encourage the international travel of students in connection with study, research, internships, and service that has been approved by their departments. Priority is given to students who have not been previously funded by the OED for international travel.
Deadline: Applications may be submitted at any time during the academic year.
Application Process: Individual students in the arts and sciences may apply for International Travel Grants online. When several individual applicants are traveling together through a course or special program, the instructor of the course or program director may submit an application collectively on behalf of eligible student travelers. The online application form is available on the Student Study Abroad page. Information provided should:
- Indicate funding status (whether the student is a recipient of previous OED funding for international travel).
- Provide a short description of the nature of the travel experience and the anticipated impact on/connection to learning and academic preparation.
- Provide a detailed budget.
- Indicate sources of matching funding (scholarship, departmental grant, personal savings, etc.).
- Have the department chair or department/program advisor send an e-mail endorsement of your project to the director of student and alumni programs.
Submission Process: Please e-mail the International Travel Grant form and any supporting documents to ascopportunities@osu.edu.

Selection Process: With a completed application, grants are awarded on a first come, first served basis until all funds are expended.
Funding: The expectation is that this fund will support approximately 120 individual students at $500 each in matching funds.
2) International Research Grants for Undergraduates in the Arts and Sciences
General Focus: to encourage students to engage in research in international venues with their faculty mentors.Deadlines: November 14, 2008 and February 27, 2009
Application and Selection Process: Faculty are encouraged to apply for a grant to support an undergraduate student who can benefit from participation in research abroad. The Undergraduate Research Scholarship Subcommittee of the ASC Honors Committee will be responsible for reviewing proposals and making the awards by mid-December 2008 and the end of March 2009. The award will be administered by the ASC Honors Program office in collaboration with the Office of International Affairs. The online application cover sheet may be completed by a faculty member in the Arts and Sciences. The information provided should:
- include a description of the research project and the international experience (can include conference presentation)
- indicate the projected timeline for the project and travel abroad
- articulate in some detail the form and nature of the student’s involvement in the research project. If available, the grounds for the student selection and a brief biographical sketch of the student should be included.
- Include a budget page with information about the proposed use of funds requested for student support and provide documentation about any other resources available to the student (accommodation, faculty grant support, etc.).

Funding: Faculty may apply for up to $4,000 for student support. Funds will be provided for one student. In 2008-09, the maximum amount available for this fund is $20,000. The Undergraduate Research Scholarship Subcommittee of the Arts and Sciences Honors Committee will determine the level of funding for each grant awarded, as well as the number of awards to be distributed based on merit review criteria. Special attention will be paid to the appropriateness and value of the educational experience for the student participant.
Scholarships
1) Reusché Scholarships
General Focus: to support high achieving students in the arts and sciences Scholars Programs (Arts; Biological Sciences; Humanities; Politics, Society, and Law) who have financial need.
Timing: Spring Quarter
Selection Process: In consultation with the Financial Aid Office, the ASC Office of the Executive Dean will select annually scholarship recipients from each of the arts and sciences Scholars Programs, based on grade point average, active participation in program activities, financial need, and the recommendation on the program coordinator.

Funding: The Reusché Scholarship Fund will support 20 one-time awards per year at $1,250 each.
2) Eldridge-Harmon Scholarships
General Focus: to support first generation undergraduate students in the arts and sciences.Timing: Spring Quarter
Selection Process: In consultation with the Financial Aid Office, the ASC Office of the Executive Dean will select annually scholarship recipients, based on their status as first generation college students, major area, grade point average, and financial need.

3) Rising Star Awards
General Focus: to recognize students in the arts and sciences at the completion of their first year at Ohio State who have participated actively in the ASC Diversity Services Office (DSO) programs.Deadline: April 15.
Nomination Process and Selection Process: This award is administered by the ASC Diversity Services Office. For additional information and the application form, go to the Rising Star Award information page.
Any arts and sciences student who has participated actively in DSO programs may self nominate by completing the online self-nomination form.
Nomination forms will be reviewed by the DSO selection committee established for this purpose.

2) Supplemental Research Grants
General Focus: to support the research needs of graduate students in connection with their dissertation projects to support, for example: travel to research sites, transcription services, the purchase of data reports from research centers, costs for permissions, etc.Deadlines: This program has three deadlines annually (if any of the deadlines fall on a weekend, then applications will be due the following Monday):
- January 15
- April 1- Extended to May 1 for 2008
- September 30

- Provide a short description of the research project and the value added by the grant in support of the project.

- Include a signature of endorsement by the graduate advisor, department chair/program director, and dean.

Fellowships
1) Estelle Southard Fellowships
General Focus: to support the research of graduate students in the arts and sciences, with a preference for three fields: history, political science, and medical sciences.
Deadline: April 1 - extended to May 1 for 2008.
Nomination Process: The online nomination cover sheet may be completed by the designated person in the college office of one of the five arts and sciences colleges. Information provided should include:
- Confirmation that the research is in one of the three designated areas.
- An assessment of the quality of the graduate student’s academic record and the quality of the student’s research project.
- An indication of the impact of funding toward the completion of the dissertation project.
- A signature of endorsement by the graduate advisor, the chair of the department/director of the program, and the dean.
