This year's Patrons' Circle lecturer is: Michael Lobel, Purchase College, State University of New York
"Ivory Tower or Gatehouse: Art History, the Museum, and the Crisis in the Humanities"

The lecture explores what place art history has in recent discussions of the broader state of the humanities, and looks at the relationship between art history and the museum.

Michael Lobel is professor of art history, director of the MA program in modern and contemporary art, criticism and theory at Purchase College, State University of New York. His publications include three books: Image Duplicator: Roy Lichtenstein and the Emergence of Pop Art (Yale University Press, 2002); James Rosenquist: Pop Art, Politics and History in the 1960s (University of California Press, 2009); and John Sloan: Drawing on Illustration (Yale University Press, 2014).

The lecture will take place on Thursday, October 9 at 5:30 p.m. A reception will follow in 214 Pomerene Hall. The lecture is free and open to all.
