Susan Powell, School of Music, Ohio State, will give a lecture titled, “Expanding the Performance Potential of the Xylophone”.
This lecture will explore the ever-expanding role of the xylophone in contemporary solo and chamber music performance. Audio and video examples of recent compositions and commissions by Powell will be presented, along with a discussion of the unique timbral qualities of the xylophone compared to other instruments from the mallet keyboard family.
