Jared Gardner, professor of English and film studies at The Ohio State University, will be the featured speaker at the 2012-2013 Arts and Humanities Inaugural Lecture on Wednesday, February 20, at 5pm in the Ohio State Faculty Club’s Grand Lounge. Gardner’s lecture "Popular Serialities and Reading Communities, 1787-2012" will draw on his two recent books—The Rise and Fall of Early American Newspaper Culture and Projections: Comics and the History of 21st-century Storytelling. This talk considers popular serial storytelling and the reading communities that brought it to life through various media from the late 18th century through the early 21st. Looking ahead to serial storytelling's future, Gardner will also speculate about what comes next. Free and open to all. A reception will accompany the event. RSVP is requested.
