Martin Sarter, professsor of psychology & neuroscience,University of Michigan, will give a talk on "Cholinergic Control Of Attention In Rodents And Humans."
Abstract: Our research employs basic and translational research approaches to study brain systems that control attentional functions and capacities. I will discuss our basic research on the regulation and function of forebrain cholinergic systems, the impact of genetic variations in choline transporter function on attentional capacities of mice and humans, and the role of cholinergic-attentional control deficits for fall propensity in Parkinson’s disease and for addiction vulnerability. I will also explain how our current understanding of cholinergic mechanisms informs the development of treatments for these disorders.
