Christian Historiographers' Reflections on Jewish/Christian Violence in Early 5th Century Alexandria

February 15, 2012
All Day
Thompson Library, room 165

Oded Irshai, Professor of Jewish History, Hebrew University, and Anthony Kaldellis, Professor of Greek and Latin, The Ohio State University, will have a conversation on violent encounters between Jews and Christians in early fifth century Alexandria (414-415 CE), not only in an attempt to understand the harrowing events within the unique local setting of the political and ethno-religious power struggle, but also in an effort to come to grips with their narrative representation in contemporary Christian Historiography.
