The Evolution of Human Nutrition
A public symposium hosted by the UCSD/Salk Center for Academic Research & Training in Anthropogeny (CARTA), which will bring together scientists from a wide variety of backgrounds, including Department of Anthropology Chair and Professor Clark Spencer Larsen,to explore the diets of our ancestors.
The symposium will address a variety of issues including how tracing the evolution of the human diet from our earliest ancestors can lead to a better understanding of human adaptation in the past and offer clues to the origin of many health problems that we currently face, such as obesity and chronic disease; what did early humans eat; and were the nutritional requirements and dietary needs of contemporary humans established in our prehistoric past?
Tune into the webcast for a lively discussion about the changing diets of our ancestors - from australopith diets to current hunter-gatherer diets - and what role these dietary transitions played in the evolution of humans. Access to the live webcast for this symposium will be provided at 1 pm (Pacific Time).
