The feature documentary film, I’m Not Racist. . . Am I?, about the next generation and racism, will be shown Monday, March 23 in Mershon Auditorium, 1871 N. High St.. A reception is planned 4:30-5:15 p.m. with the film screening and a discussion with the filmmakers 5:30-7:30 p.m. The event is free and open to all.
In the documentary, 12 New York City teenagers come together during one school year to talk about race and privilege in a series of workshops and in conversations with friends and family members.
Koritha Mitchell, associate professor, English, says she is passionate about this important film because she has many future teachers in her English classes and wants to help equip them with an awareness of race and America’s young people today. “Younger generations aren’t automatically less prejudiced,” she said. “Just look at the Oklahoma fraternity that recently made national news with their song about banning Blacks from their fraternity. We don’t have to look to Oklahoma for that kind of behavior.”
