Ohio State Wind Symphony Performs at Cleveland's Severance Hall

February 13, 2013
All Day
Severance Hall, 11001 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH

The Ohio State University Wind Symphony – a nationally recognized student ensemble -- presents Made in America in Cleveland's historic Severance Hall at 7:30 pm Tuesday, February 12.

Under the baton of Russel C. Mikkelson, (pictured) professor of conducting and director of university bands, the distinctive program includes works by Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Henry Fillmore, and George Gershwin, with Frank Ticheli's Concerto for Clarinet featuring clarinet professor Caroline Hartig. In addition to Mikkelson, guest conductors include Scott A. Jones, associate professor of bands, and Jonathan Waters, director of marching and athletic bands.

“With Mikkelson’s leadership, the Wind Symphony has garnered national recognition and distinction among university wind band programs,” said Richard Blatti, director of Ohio State’s School of Music. “Their performance at Severance Hall will showcase what is best about our School of Music -- a passion for music-making and a commitment to excellence by talented student musicians and a world-class faculty.” The ensemble, he added, has released five CDs, including its most recent recording, Rest (Naxos 2012).

Regarded by many music-lovers as one of the world's most beautiful concert halls, Severance Hall opened in 1931 as the home of the Cleveland Orchestra. Ohio State’s Wind Symphony last played there in 1997.

Tickets are $10 general admission; available by calling (216) 231-1111 or toll-free (800) 686-1141, or Buy Tickets online. Special arrangements are available for school groups. Call the School of Music at (614) 292-6571 for more information.
