Columbus artist Tamara Jaeger will present a collection of decoratively constructed and painted assemblages in an exhibition titled “Works In Wood.” These sculptural works of art are life-sized creations depicting people, birds, animals, plants and musical instruments. Tamara Jaeger’s technique of creating assemblages – an artistic process which consists of making three-dimensional works by combining various elements including wood, metal, ceramic and found objects and then hand embellishing them with paint, pastels, ink, charcoal or graphite – is unique, yet draws on artistic traditions dating back to the first Cubist constructions of Pablo Picasso in the early twentieth century. In Jaeger’s meticulously assembled compositions, one can see cultural references influenced and informed by her travels and study abroad. By incorporating found objects from the urban neighborhood in which she lives and maintains a studio, her work also reflects the vibrant, contemporary world around her.
Jaeger graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She then earned an MFA from Ohio State.
