Chandra Mallampalli, Associate Professor of History at Westmont University will present “Religion, Law, and Identity in Colonial India: The Role of Court Cases in Defining Religious Boundaries”, where he describes the role of court cases in British India in defining the boundaries of Hindu, Muslim. The speaker examines the far-reaching role of the courts which raises important questions not only about the relationship of gender and religion, but also about the transition from pre-modern to modern notions of communal identity.
