McClatchy Professor of Law at Stanford Law School.Persily focuses his research on the law of democracy, addressing issues such as voting rights, political parties, campaign finance and redistricting. He served as a court-appointed expert to draw legislative districting plans for Georgia, Maryland and New York and as special master for the redistricting of Connecticut's congressional districts. Most recently, Persily served as the senior research director for the Presidential Commission on Election Administration, a bipartisan commission created by the President to deal with the long lines at the polling place and other administrative problems witnessed in the 2012 election.Persily will be discussing the forthcoming book, Solutions to Political Polarization in America, a collection of essays by leading scholars about contemporary American politics. He is the editor as well as a contributor to this important new volume.Reception to follow. This event is free and open to all. Registration Requested. The Ohio State University Democracy Studies Program is a nonpartisan, interdisciplinary collaboration dedicated to nurturing the American people’s understanding of its own self-government. Through research, teaching and outreach, the program supports scholarly examination of the norms, procedures and institutions required for a healthy democracy. Partners include Ohio State's Moritz College of  Law and the College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Political Science. Additional partners include the Ohio State's Department of History; Department of Philosophy; School of Communication and the John Glenn College of Public Affairs.
