Who will staff the BSC? top ↑
The Business Process Redesign Fiscal and Human Resource working groups have been charged with determining the number and types of positions needed in the BSC. The first group of job postings will be in late July to be followed by additional job postings in late summer/early fall.
Will current Arts and Sciences staff be notified prior to new job openings being posted? top ↑
Yes. Once the Steering Committee and the Arts and Sciences deans approve staffing recommendations from the working groups we will notify all Arts and Sciences staff of the number of new positions, the titles of the new positions and when the job openings will be posted on the OSU jobs website ( http://jobs.osu.edu/ ). In addition, announcements of all job openings/postings will be posted on the Restructuring of the Arts and Sciences website: http://artsandsciences.osu.edu/facultystaff/ascrestructuring.cfm. The first staff position in the BSC, the BSC manager’s position, will be posted on the OSU jobs website on Friday, July 10, 2009. The full position description, position requisition number, and the name of the chair of the hiring committee assigned this position, will be posted on the Restructuring website and announced to Arts and Sciences staff, via email, by July 9.
What is the timeframe for having the BSC fully staffed? top ↑
Staffing the BSC will take place over several months, beginning in August, 2009. It is our goal to have the first group of job openings posted in late July to be followed by additional job postings in late summer/early fall.
Who can I talk to if I have questions about new job postings? top ↑
Each BSC job posting will have a hiring committee. We will list contact information for each hiring committee chair in our job posting announcements on the Restructuring of the Arts and Sciences website. Please feel free to contact these committee chairs for more information about a specific job posting.
What functions will be moving to the BSC first? top ↑
After a careful review of Arts and Sciences fiscal and HR processes by the BPR Working Groups, the following list of processes have been selected to move to the BSC first. The movement of these processes will be ongoing this fall as the staffing and technology are put in place to ensure a smooth and seamless transition.
- H1B Visa processing.
- J1 Visitor Visa processing.
- University Travel Reimbursements.
- University Procurement Card and Travel Card processes.
- University Payment Requests.
- University Voucher Approval processes.
- Regular staff and faculty hiring processes.
Will OSURF transactions be handled in the BSC? top ↑
We are working with the Office of Research and OSURF to create consistent process flows and eliminate paper for those OSURF functions that will move to the BSC.
Where will the BSC be located and when will it open? top ↑
The BSC will be located in Room 100 of the Journalism Building. Renovation of Room 100 will begin very soon with a target completion date in January 2010. The BSC will open in a temporary location on September 1, 2009.
Why is the BSC opening a temporary office rather than waiting until renovations are complete? top ↑
We chose September 1, 2009 to open the BSC to allow staff ample time to study the processes and adjust or change steps in the processes prior to the start of fall quarter (September 23, 2009). We have identified available space to accommodate the staff and equipment necessary to open the BSC on September 1. Any equipment purchased for the temporary BSC will move to the permanent location or another unit in the Arts and Sciences, therefore limiting additional or unnecessary expenditures.
