Interdisciplinary Programs
As a student in the Arts and Sciences, you have access to more than 1,000 faculty members in 41 departments. Translation: your opportunities for combining majors, adding minors, and creating your own mix of disciplines are virtually endless.
Interdisciplinary Majors
Ohio State’s flagship interdisciplinary program in International Studies demonstrates the collaborative nature of drawing from diverse academic disciplines, allowing you to choose from 10 tracks, or specializations, that allow you to explore a distinct subject or to focus on a particular region of the world.
The Middle Childhood Education major is designed to provide an initial preparation for prospective middle childhood teachers. Under Ohio licensure requirements, a middle childhood teacher must specialize in any two of four subject-matter fields: reading and language arts, social studies, mathematics, and science.
The interdisciplinary major in Film Studies incorporates other fields such as art, history, languages, popular culture, and communication. Along with faculty from nine departments in the Arts and Sciences, the film curators of the Wexner Center for the Arts help oversee the major.
Interdisciplinary Minors/Programs
Arts and Sciences offers a wide range of interdisciplinary minors with more in development.
Special Interdisciplinary Programs
We also offer two special programs that cross departmental boundaries.
Freshman Seminars―Small, discussion-based seminars where distinguished faculty introduce first-year students to topical and cutting-edge research areas from a wide variety of disciplines.
Professional Pathways―Seminars to help Ohio State sophomores and juniors explore professional career paths (including graduate and professional post-secondary educational opportunities, as well as the myriad of occupational options) and current professional issues.
