Short Description: The Ohio State Symphony Orchestra and choirs present two masterworks in the choral/orchestral repertoire.

The School of Music presents a collaborative concert featuring its Ohio State Symphony Orchestra, Women’s Glee Club, Men’s Glee Club and Symphonic Choir in a concert featuring two masterworks in the choral/orchestral repertoire. The concert will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, in Weigel Auditorium, 1866 College Rd. It is free and open to all.

Assistant Professor Katherine Rohrer, soloist, will join the Men’s Glee Club for Brahms’ Alto Rhapsody based on a text by Goethe. The Symphonic Choir, Men’s Glee Club, Women’s Glee Club and orchestra will present Beethoven’s Mass in C. First performed in 1807, op. 86 is one of two settings of the Mass by the composer and will feature student vocalists Daina Robinson, soprano; Lianna Wimberly Williams, mezzo-soprano; Mark Thress, tenor, and Jeff MacMullen, bass.

Choral conductors are Robert J. Ward, Kristina MacMullen and Scott McCoy; symphony conductor is Marshall Haddock.

“It is a wonderful thing to be able to bring these monuments of the choral/orchestral literature to Ohio State students and the community,” Ward said. “It’s notable to mention that the Beethoven solo quartet is comprised exclusively of students. Soprano Daina Robinson is an international studies major, not a music major, illustrating the fact that our school welcomes many students across campus, whether they are majoring in music or not.”
