Short Description: The Center for Human Resource Research (CHRR), founded in 1965, is celebrating its 50th anniversary simultaneously with the 50-year commemoration of the National Longitudinal Surveys (NLS). The NLS was started at Ohio State's CHRR in the mid-1960s. The program has run continuously through CHRR for five decades.


Join researchers, faculty and staff of Ohio State’s Center for Human Resource Research (CHRR) as they celebrate 50 years as pioneers in the development of survey methodology and as a world leader in groundbreaking social science research, Tuesday, Oct.13, 2015; 4-6 p.m., Thompson Library, 11th floor. Drinks and refreshments served, starting at 4 p.m., with remarks from university deans and special guests at 4:30 p.m. Learn about CHRR's global experience designing and managing research and policy studies:

  • 50 Years of the National Longitudinal Surveys (NLS) – one of the world’s premier data sources for studying employment, health, education, and families over time; used by thousands of researchers, policy makers, faculty, and students from sociology, economics, psychology, education, to medicine and law.

  • The New Immigrant Survey - a multi-year national study designed to study the experience of new legal permanent residents of the United States.

  • Ohio Longitudinal Data Archive (OLDA) - Big Data in an accessible format to give access to state administrative data for education and workforce research.

  • The Ohio Study – an innovative project designed to examine the impact of multiple social contexts – neighborhood, home, school, and peers –  on adolescent risk behaviors and mental/physical health outcomes.

  • Ohio Health Youth Environments Survey (OHYES!) – a statewide, school-based survey of students grades 7-11 on environmental and risk behaviors that affect youth health and safety.
