Add to Calendar 2015-11-17 11:00:00 2015-11-17 12:00:00 Coffee, Cookies and Conversation Time: 4 p.m. Event Host: Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures (CLLC) Short Description: Professor Sarah-Grace Heller kicks off the first Coffee, Cookies and Conversation in the Crane Café (Hagerty Hall) with “Books, Bones and Faded Images: An Illustrated History of Early Medieval Fashion.” This is a new Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures (CLLC)-sponsored series held in the Crane Café (Hagerty Hall) that invites the entire campus and public-at-large to engage in conversations with renowned Ohio State faculty from our foreign language departments. Professor Sarah-Grace Heller kicks off the first Coffee, Cookies and Conversation with “Books, Bones and Faded Images: An Illustrated History of Early Medieval Fashion.” She will trace the history of a fashion period often overlooked–the early Middle Ages. With advances in archeology, a richer picture of the period has developed, with texts suggesting avid desires for bright colors, rich fabrics and splendid headgear. Over coffee and cookies, Heller will discuss some of the challenges of analyzing and comparing the fragment remains found in furnished burials, poetic texts, manuscript images and crumbling wall paintings to better understand the deep roots of the modern fashion system.For more information visit the Center for Languages Literatures and Cultures.
