Short Description: This will be an evening of dynamic presentations on HIV, selected from the top student work from the cross-disciplinary course that we team teach called "HIV: From Microbiology to Macrohistory."

This will be an evening of dynamic presentations on HIV, selected from the top student work from the cross-disciplinary course that we team teach called "HIV: From Microbiology to Macrohistory." Students in the class have worked together in small groups to tackle an aspect of HIV/AIDS and present their work in the pecha kucha format. This means they have 20 slides that auto-advance every 20 seconds. The format lends itself to lively presentations and insures that students have honed their message.

This year the STEAM Factory has teamed with the AIDS Resource Center Ohio (ARC Ohio) to have an evening event to showcase this student work, and get scholars, students, activists, and community members together.

The STEAM Factory has successfully sought departmental and grant funding to be able to have the event catered by Strongwater (a restaurant in the same building as the Steam Factory), and envisions a terrific evening that shows off undergraduate research, highlights undergraduate cross-disciplinary work in the sciences and humanities, involves relevant community members and touches on the Discovery Themes (in both form -- cross-departmental -- and substance -- infectious diseases).

The HIV course grew out of the College of Arts and Science's call for team-taught, cross-disciplinary classes and cross listed between Microbiology and History. This is the second year this course has been taught, and it has has been a big hit, attracting excellent students from a wide range of science and humanities backgrounds who make the most of the intellectual challenges thrown their way.
