Legacies of Resistance: Read-In of Malcolm X's The Ballot or the Bullet

Short Description: Join the Transnational Black Citizenship Discovery Theme collective as we think about how Malcolm X's 1964 speech "The Ballot or the Bullet" shaped a legacy of political resistance through the demonstration of First Amendment rights for African Americans.
Join the Transnational Black Citizenship Discovery Theme collective as we think about how Malcolm X's 1964 speech "The Ballot or the Bullet" shaped a legacy of political resistance through the demonstration of First Amendment rights for African Americans. We will discuss this speech in relationship to musical performances by Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar and T.I. that address black disenfranchisement, as well as recent political stands taken by Colin Kaepernick and other athletes. RSVP requested.Funded by a pilot project grant from the Humanities and the Arts Discovery Theme.
