However, the role the play and the rules that govern their influence vary widely from country to country. Media and journalism are very important components of all elec-tions, whether in the United States or abroad. However, the role the play and the rules that govern their influence vary widely from coun-try to country. Some countries have adopted American norms and practices when it comes to campaign adver-tising and how the press covers the election. Other countries have rejected American norms and have created their own. In many countries the media promotes free and democratic elections. Yet in others the media is a tool of autocrats to maintain their power. Please join us on October 3rd at 4:30pm in Journalism 360 for a pan-el discussion on these topics and more. The panel will be composed of international media and election experts from the Comparative National Elections Project representing Russia, Mexico, Germany, Portugal, and South Africa. The panel discussion will be moderated by Dr. Erik Nisbet from the OSU School of Communication. Media and journalism are very important components of all elec-tions, whether in the United States or abroad. However, the role the play and the rules that govern their influence vary widely from coun-try to country. 

Some countries have adopted American norms and practices when it comes to campaign adver-tising and how the press covers the election. Other countries have rejected American norms and have created their own. In many countries the media promotes free and democratic elections.
