Short Description: Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies is partnering with the Girls Circle Project to screen The Mask You Live In which explores how our culture's narrow definition of masculinity is harming our boys, men and society.


There will be a reception before the events and a panel discussion after the screening.

Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies is partnering with the Girls Circle Project to screen The Mask You Live In which explores how our culture's narrow definition of masculinity is harming our boys, men and society. WGSS Graduate student Jonathan Brafnman along with WGSS Professor Linda Mizejewski will follow the screening with a panel discussion. The other members are to be announced.

Who is a "real" man? Who gets to decide? Take a challenging look at American's narrow definitions of masculinity at this screening and discussion of The Mask You Live In (2015), a new documentary from Jennifer Siebel Newsom (Miss Representation). The film investigates how boys and young men are actively encouraged to swallow their emotions, objectify women and resolve conflicts through violence. Supported by interviews with experts in neuroscience, psychology, sports, education and the media, the film and discussion that follows ask us to question our own deeply help gender stereotypes in hopes of raising healtheir future generations of men and women.
