Black Studies Matters Forum

On March 22, the Department of African American and African Studies hosted Black Studies Matters! The Importance of Global Black Studies in the Age of Ferguson, a forum that brought faculty and students together for an important conversation on the value of a black studies education in our current political moment, which has witnessed the rise of anti-racist movements around the world.

Co-sponsored by The Hale Council and the Model African Union, and featuring AAAS faculty members Leslie Alexander, Denise Noble and Cheikh Thiam, as well as doctoral student Sheneese Thompson and undergraduate major Sarah Mamo, the event was held at the Frank W. Hale Jr. Black Cultural Center in front of a capacity crowd of over 100 people who joined in a lively discussion on the legacies of past political struggles, the climate for black faculty and students on the Ohio State campus, and the need for informed political engagement to combat racism both in our own communities and around the world.
