Ann Hamilton to create art installation in Seattle

Ann Hamilton, professor, Department of Art, and Distinguished University Professor at Ohio State, has been commissioned to create a large public art installation on a new waterfront development in Seattle, according to a news report in The Seattle Times. The installation will become the centerpiece of Waterfront Seattle, to be constructed on Elliott Bay, on Piers 62/63 and/or the Union Street Pier there.

The report said the project has a $1 million total budget, and the exact nature of what Hamilton will build is still to be determined.

Hamilton earlier created a Seattle Central Library piece, "LEW wood floor," where raised letters in 11 languages spell out the first sentences from books in the library's collection. She also currently is working on an installation that will transform the Henry Art Gallery at the University of Washington; it opens in October.
