ASC Alumni Garner GCAC Film Awards

Three Arts and Sciences alumni have been honored with 2014 Media Arts Fellowship awards from the Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC). They were announced Nov. 22 during an event hosted by the Columbus International Film & Video Festival.

Fellowship recipients are:

  • Michael Polk ($3,500), who graduated from Ohio State with degrees in film studies and history in 2012. He currently is in pre-production on two narrative short films, preparing a short documentary and writing a feature-length narrative film.
  • Matthew Swift ($1,500), who is program coordinator for Ohio State’s film studies program, where he provides advising to students, is productions lead for the Journal of Short Film and teaches film theory. He has bachelor’s degrees in film studies and art history with a minor in fine arts from Ohio State. His master’s degree in library and information science is from Kent State.
  • Nicolette Swift ($1,500), who is a Columbus video artist, has created videos for more than 20 years. She graduated from Ohio State with degrees in art history and film and media studies. She has a master’s degree in library and information science from Kent State. Her freelance production company is Nicolettecinemagraphics.

In addition, 2014 Media Arts Fellowship finalists were Robert Derr (associate professor, art), Phil Garrett (MFA, theatre), Eric Homan, Celeste Irving (BFA, art)/Matt Irving and Janet Parrot (associate professor, theatre).

The Media Arts Fellowship awards assist recipients in any manner they choose to support the creation of new works and/or the advancement of their careers. They were chosen via an anonymous review process by panelists.
