School of Music to Offer Free Tickets to Students, Faculty, Staff

Friday, August 31, 2012

During the 2012-2013 concert season, the College of Arts and Sciences’ School of Music is offering free tickets for Ohio State students, faculty, and staff with their BuckIDs, according to an announcement from the school’s director, Richard Blatti. Previously, concert tickets ranged in price from $6 to $15 for the campus community. A full listing of events can be found at music.osu.edu/events.

“The School of Music is extremely proud of all it produces, which amounts to nearly 200 ticketed performances each year,” Blatti said. “Recently it occurred to me that more Ohio State students might take advantage of our concerts if they didn’t have to pay for them. After all, it’s their roommates and classmates on stage, and why should the cost of a ticket be a barrier between them and their friends? I want to fill the hall with everyone who wants to be there.”

Blatti also pointed out that music students are studying for professional careers, and to prepare for live performances, they need a live audience. “The audience offers valuable responses and a great deal of energy to the musicians,” he said.

Graduate flute performance student Katie Kuvin added, “As a music student, I’m thrilled by the new BuckID free-ticket policy. It’s my hope that students from all majors and interests across campus will take advantage of this opportunity to enjoy performances of fellow students, as well as our faculty musicians and guest artists. I would love for this new policy to encourage students to make attending music concerts part of their Ohio State experience, just like athletic events, clubs, and other social activities.”

Tickets are limited to one ticket per BuckID, which must be presented to receive a ticket. Students, faculty, and staff can obtain a free ticket by visiting the Ohio State Theatre Box Office at Drake Performance and Event Center, 1849 Cannon Dr., Monday-Friday, 10 am-4 pm. Tickets may also be obtained by presenting your BuckID at the event venue box office (such as Weigel Hall) one hour prior to the performance. For School of Music events held in Mershon Auditorium, free advance tickets may be obtained at the patron services desk at the Wexner Center for the Arts. All tickets are subject to availability, and are not available over the phone.

Additional tickets may be purchased in advance through the Ohio State Theatre Box Office, (614) 292-2295. For School of Music events in Mershon Auditorium additional tickets can be purchased at www.wexarts.org, in person at the Wexner Center for the Arts, or by calling (614) 292-3535.
