Geography Professor on the Politics of Climate Change
Joel Wainwright, associate professor of geography, along with Geoff Mann, associate professor of geography, Simon Fraser University, have written a paper on the political consequences of the responses to the threats of climate change for Antipode, a radical journal of geography. Their study, Climate Leviathan, is freely available online (it’s open access – no subscription required) until the end of the year. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1467-8330.2012.01018.x/abstract
Since 1969, Antipode has published peer-reviewed papers which offer a radical analysis of geographical issues and whose intent is to engender the development of a new and better society. According to the journal, Wainwright and Mann’s paper is “a singularly ambitious work; it’s original, innovative, tremendously provocative, and it pushes the boundaries of radical scholarship.”
Antipode has commissioned and published four responses to Wainwright and Mann’s paper. They also are freely available on line at http://radicalantipode.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/barkan_climate-http://radicalantipode.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/labban_climate-leviathan.pdfleviathan.pdf; http://radicalantipode.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/bigger_climate-leviathan.pdf; and http://radicalantipode.files.wordpress.com/2012/07/lohmann_climate-leviathan.pdf. A reply from Wainwright and Mann will be published in a month.
