Julia Andrews' Book on Chinese Art Wins Award

A book co-authored by Julia Andrews, professor in the Department of History of Art and a specialist in Chinese art, and history of art alumnus Kuiyi Shen, won the 2013 International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS) Book Prize in the Humanities. Their book, The Art of Modern China (University of California Press: Berkeley/Los Angeles/London, 2012) describes the progression of Chinese art since the mid-19th century.

The ICAS reading committee said the book “is extremely well-written, a superb work that achieves the most difficult of tasks; a single volume that will inform newcomers and specialists alike. A delight to read. It can truly be said that if you read only one work on the subject, this should be it.”

The award was presented at the ICAS in June hosted by the University of Macau and held in the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. More than 1,200 Asia specialists attended. Macao is located in the heart of East Asia.

Andrews was also a recipient of the 2013 Distinguished Scholar Award from Ohio State.
