Linguistics Doctoral Student Profiled in New York Times

Brice Russ is a doctoral student and instructor for the Department of Linguistics, where he is researching linguistic variation in social media. According to a paper presented by Russ at the annual meeting of the American Dialect Society, the 200 million or so messages posted each day in the world of Twitter may end up being a rich source of information about regional difference. Russ’ research was recently profiled in the New York Times.

Russ received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He previously served as the New Media Coordinator for the 4Frontiers Corporation, and has written freelance articles on NewSpace and space advocacy for Ars Technica and various space-sector blogs and publications
