The Department of Geography announced today the selection of Edward J.Malecki as recipient of The Dr. Martha L. Corry Faculty Fellow in Geography.

The fellowship is named in honor of Corry, a 1941 graduate of Ohio State, who was in the vanguard of women who pursued a professional career as a geographer at the PhD level.

Malecki, professor of geography, specializes in urban, rural, and regional economic development; technological change; regional policy; research and development; technology policy; telecommunications; and corporation location and behavior. In 2007, he was selected as fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), for pioneering research defining technology's role in economic and regional development, and for distinguished research on the dynamics of local, regional, and national competitiveness.

Malecki is co-author of the book, The Digital Economy, an analysis of the technologies, organizations, and dynamics which constitute the digital economy, and the impacts they have on regions and communities. He is currently associate editor of Entrepreneurship and Regional Development and is a member of the editorial boards of Economic Geography, Geogafiska Annaler (Series B, Human Geography), European Spatial Research and Policy, Growth and Change, Regional Studies, International Regional Science Review, Quaestiones Geographicae, and the Review of Regional Studies.

Malecki’s fellowship begins July 1, 2011 and continues through 2015.
