Mark Shanda, divisional dean, arts and humanities, says he was “surprised and honored” to be named a Fellow of the United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT) at the organization’s recent conference. This honorary designation is bestowed for life upon members of the Institute who have made “a truly outstanding contribution to the theatre and/or the performing arts community and to the work of the Institute.” Fellows are nominated by existing fellows; at any point they can number no more than 2.5 percent of the total membership. Shanda was inducted with four others this year, bringing the current fellow count to a total of 77 out of an institute membership of 3500. Shanda also serves on USITT’s board of directors, as vice president of communications.
