Ohio State MFA Acting Alumnus Plays Marvin Gaye on London Stage

Sifiso Mazibuko

Sifiso Mazibuko, who graduated with an MFA in acting from the Department of Theatre in 2015, will play the role of Marvin Gaye in the London cast of Motown: The Musical, opening this month at the Shaftesbury Theatre in London’s West End.

“My experience has been amazing,” he said. “The cast, creative team and everyone involved with this production have been incredible. The idea of my West End debut being on a show of such magnitude blows me away. I’m beyond thrilled to be a part of it and to be playing a figure as iconic as Marvin Gaye.”

All of the cast members do their own singing and dancing in the show, he said, which chronicles the American dream story of Motown founder Berry Gordy, who launched the careers of Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson and many more, and features classics like “My Girl” and “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

While at Ohio State, Mazibuko appeared in productions including The Mystery of Edwin Drood (fall 2012) and The Tempest (fall 2013).
