Career Services

In today’s world, a liberal arts education is impressive to employers because students in the arts and sciences are taught to approach their work from many angles.  It is by writing papers, participating in classroom discussions, and critically analyzing text that you strengthen intellectual and creative abilities and complexity of thought.

An Arts and Sciences degree provides you with a powerful array of transferable skills to the workplace in a rapidly changing world.  Strong written and verbal communications, sharp critical and analytical thinking, and an ability to research, report, and independently pursue a finished project make you a superior candidate for employers.

Job search assistance is available to graduating seniors through the Arts and Sciences Career Services Office, which works with you via career fairs, skill-building workshops, and one-on-one advising to help secure employment after graduation.

In addition to preparing you for a variety of careers, a degree in the Arts and Sciences is excellent training for an advanced degree in your area of study or a professional degree in education, law, or the health professions, including medicine, dentistry, optometry, pharmacy, and veterinary medicine.

Within a year after graduation, approximately 30% of Ohio State’s Arts and Sciences students attend graduate or professional school, about 10% work in the nonprofit and government sectors, and 55% move into jobs in the business world.
