Graduate Student Grants
Graduate students in the arts and sciences may apply for several grant opportunities to support their study, research, and travel through the Office of the Executive Dean for the Colleges of the Arts and Sciences.
1) International Travel Grants
General Focus: to encourage the international travel of graduate students in connection with their dissertation research.Deadline: Applications may be submitted at any time during the academic year.
Application Process: Individual students in the arts and sciences may apply for International Travel Grants in support of dissertation research online. The online application cover sheet is available on the Student Study Abroad page. Information provided should:
- Indicate funding status (whether the student is a recipient of previous OED funding for international travel).
- Provide a short description of the research project and the value added by the international travel in support of the project.
- Provide a detailed budget.
- Indicate sources of matching funding (fellowship, departmental grant, external funding, personal savings, etc.).
- Have the graduate advisor send an e-mail endorsement of your project to the director of student and alumni programs.

Selection Process: With a completed application, grants are awarded on a first come, first served basis until all funds are expended.
Funding: The expectation is that this fund will support approximately 20 students at $1,000 each in matching funds.
2) Supplemental Research Grants
General Focus: to support the research needs of graduate students in connection with their dissertation projects to support, for example: travel to research sites, transcription services, the purchase of data reports from research centers, costs for permissions, etc.Deadlines: This program has three deadlines annually (if any of the deadlines fall on a weekend, then applications will be due the following Monday):
- January 15
- April 1 - extended to May 1 for 2008
- September 30
Application Process: Complete the online application cover sheet. Information provided should:
- Indicate funding status (whether the student is a recipient of previous OED funding from this program).
- Provide a short description of the research project and the value added by the grant in support of the project.
- Provide a detailed budget.
- Indicate sources of other funding for the project (fellowship, departmental grant, external funding, personal savings, etc.).
- Include a signature of endorsement by the graduate advisor, department chair/program director, and dean.
Submission Process: Please e-mail application cover sheet and all supporting documents to ascopportunities@osu.edu
