The letter should address your study abroad plans and the relevance of your study abroad in relation to your academic and/or professional goals. If your travel is part of an honors project or research you are conducting in conjunction with a faculty member, the recommendation should come from this person. If you are early in your enrollment at OSU and have not yet had the opportunity to become acquainted with an OSU faculty member, you may ask another OSU staff member such as a graduate teaching assistant or advisor, to submit a recommendation on your behalf
Step 3: For students traveling independently, ask the faculty member who will oversee your study abroad to complete the Independent Travel Supplement online form.
The Independent Travel Supplement is to be completed by the Ohio State faculty member who is overseeing the academic component of your study abroad and awarding the credit you will be earning. This form is required in addition to the letter of recommendation. However, the same faculty member may submit both the letter of recommendation and the Independent Travel Supplement form. This supplement is only required when a student is traveling independently. Students traveling as part of a program sponsored by Ohio State (managed by the Office of International Affairs) and/or an academic unit should not submit this supplement.
Step 4: Complete the online application form.
