Humanities Scholarships

These funds support study abroad in connection with study, research, internships, field work, and service-learning. The study abroad experience may be part of a program sponsored by The Ohio State University (managed by the Office of International Affairs) and/or an OSU academic unit, or a student's independent travel that is overseen by a member of the OSU faculty and for which OSU academic credit will be earned.  Eligibility for each fund is specified below.

There are two application deadlines for these four funding opportunities: October 27, 2011 and March 8, 2012.  Submit only one online application for each deadline.  See the following link for information on the funds that apply to each deadline.  Application Information and Application Form.  Additional scholarship opportunities are listed below.

Arts and Sciences Undergraduate International Experiences Grants
Open to Columbus campus undergraduate students with a declared major in the arts and sciences.  Preference is given to students who demonstrate financial need as determined by Pell Grant eligibility.  Awards are made twice each year.

Keith and Linda Monda International Experience Scholarships
Need-based scholarships open to Columbus campus undergraduate students with a declared major in the arts and sciences.  These scholarships are designed to support students who would not normally be able to afford an international experience.  Scholarships will be awarded toward costs associated with study abroad excluding tuition.  Financial need will be determined by the Financial Aid Office based on information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Preference given to students who have not previously participated in a study abroad program.

Roth Family Endowment
Open to Columbus campus undergraduate students with a declared major in the arts and sciences who are active in the Diversity Services Office Program for Advising in Scholarship and Service (PASS) or PASS Beyond. Recipients agree to make two presentations about their travel to approved groups upon their return.  Awards are made once each year.

Humanities Scholarships
Open to Columbus campus undergraduate students with a declared major in a humanities discipline.  Awards are made once each year.

The Edmund M. Kagay Scholarship
Competition for the Edmund M. Kagay Scholarship is open to full-time undergraduate students with a declared major in a humanities discipline, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 and above and a planned language study abroad program. Awards will be made on the basis of academic merit.

The Forrest and Marjorie Miller Endowed Fund for Study Abroad
One travel grant will be awarded per year to a deserving student of at least junior status with a GPA of 3.0 majoring in Italian, French, or Spanish.

The Humanities Alumni Scholarship
Competition for Humanities Alumni scholarships is open to full-time undergraduate students with a declared major in a humanities discipline, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3 and above, and a planned study abroad program. Awards will be made on the basis of academic merit. Preference will be given to sophomores or juniors.

Richard and Karol Wells Scholarship
Competition for the Richard and Karol Wells Study Abroad Scholarships is open to undergraduates with a declared major in a humanities discipline, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.4, and a planned study abroad program.

Robert and Mary Reusché Scholarship for Study Abroad
Competition for the Robert and Mary Reusché College of Humanities Study Abroad Scholarship is open to undergraduates with a declared major in a humanities discipline, a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.3, and a planned study abroad program. Preference will be given to, but not limited to, students pursuing a major or minor in a foreign language.

Virginia S. Hull Scholarship
Competition for the Virginia S. Hull scholarship for study abroad is open to undergraduates with a declared major in a humanities discipline and a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.4 and above. This scholarship is limited to those planning to study abroad in Spain, Portugal, France, or Italy.

International Research Grants for Undergraduates in the Arts and Sciences

To encourage students to engage in research in international venues along with their faculty members.  Application Information and Application Form 
 

Kathryn Sullivan Scholarship

This scholarship supports undergraduate Arts and Sciences students with a preference for junior or senior women who are majoring or minoring in the sciences, who have a passion for exploration and/or aerospace, and who are in good academic standing; however, this scholarship may be awarded to any candidate in any Arts and Sciences major. This fund will enable a student to perform undergraduate research, field work, or attend/present at a significant conference. Application information and application form.

The Margaret Noell Kindberg Memorial Fund for the Arts

The annual income shall be used primarily to support travel opportunities for students in the arts. Funds may also be used to provide assistance to an Arts student experiencing a financial hardship. William and Dolly (Ardath) Saxbe Endowed Fund for the Arts

The annual income shall be used to support priorities and initiatives in the Arts. The current initiative will be to fund undergraduate students with a declared major in an arts discipline to support their travel to perform, create, present, conduct research, or conduct creative scholarship in the arts. Application deadline is 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2011. Application Form
