Take Your Professor To Lunch
Compliments of the College of Arts and Sciences!
Although our university is large, there are many opportunities to become better acquainted with our faculty. Sharing lunch and an informal conversation is a great way to explore educational and research opportunities, to identify or confirm your career direction, as well as build an educational relationship – an important factor when requesting a future letter of reference.
Last year the College of Arts and Sciences implemented a trial program to expand on opportunities for undergraduate arts and sciences students and arts and sciences faculty to interact outside of the classroom. Funding for this program is limited and will support approximately 400 undergraduate students this year.
This program is student initiated with an undergraduate student inviting a College of Arts and Sciences faculty member to lunch.
What you need to do

- Invite a College of Arts and Sciences faculty member to lunch and confirm a date and time that you will meet.
This date must be finalized before completing the application. - Complete the online request form at least one week before your scheduled lunch.
- You and your professor will be notified via email within one week to let you know whether the lunch has been approved. If approved, you will be notified via email where to pick up your meal cards – one for your meal and one for the faculty member’s meal.
Who is eligible?
The program is open to undergraduate students who are enrolled on the Columbus campus and who have declared a major in the College of Arts and Sciences. Student eligibility is limited to one meal card per academic year (Summer Quarter - Spring Quarter) whether you dine alone with a faculty member or as part of a student group. The faculty member must teach in the College of Arts and Sciences and cannot be a Graduate Assistant (GAA/GRA/GTA).
Where may I use the meal cards?
You may use the meal cards at any OSU dining facility that accepts meal card swipes.
What do the meal cards cover?
Each meal card is good for one “all day” swipe. What is included in a meal card swipe will vary by dining location. The dining location’s menu board identifies what is included in one swipe. Any expenses not covered by the meal card must be paid for by the student.
May I invite other students to accompany me?
Yes, a student group of no more than three students may invite a faculty member to lunch. All participating students must be eligible (see eligibility above). Information for all students will be required on the request form. This includes:
- Full name
- Arts and Sciences major(s)
- OSU email address (name.#@osu.edu or name.#@buckeyemail.osu.edu)
The student who completes the online application will be responsible for picking up the meal cards for all approved members of the group.
How often may I receive a meal card?
You may request a meal card once per academic year (Summer Quarter - Spring Quarter) whether you dine alone with a faculty member or as part of a student group.
