The College of Arts and Sciences has a long and fascinating history. If you believe you know the answer to the latest e-Newsletter question, please submit your answer here. In order to be eligible for the prize drawing you must be an undergraduate student with a declared major in the College of Arts and Sciences and currently enrolled on the Columbus campus. All students with the correct answer will be entered in a random drawing. Only one entry per student will be considered.  Previous 2011 - 2012 prize recipients are not eligible.

Question - What is the "Long Walk?"
Answer - The “Long Walk” extends down the center of the Oval.  Today, some students believe that if they hold hands, walk the entire “Long Walk” and hear the chimes from Orton Hall as they are walking, they will marry.

Question - What Arts and Sciences building is named for a former U.S. president and what was his connection to OSU?
Answer - Hayes Hall is named for Rutherford B. Hayes, President of the United States, three-time governor of Ohio, and advocate for the founding of the Ohio Agricultural and Mechanical College later renamed The Ohio State University.  For historical photographs visit: Hayes Hall.

Question - During the mid-1800s, the Underground Railroad weaved its way through The Ohio State University campus. Historical markers have been placed on campus to demonstrate its route.  Where is marker number 3 of 5 located?
Answer - The Underground Railroad marker number 3 is located next to Mirror Lake.
