Arts and Humanities Inaugural Lecture: Lisa Florman

March 19, 2014
All Day
Faculty Club Grand Lounge

Event Host: Arts and Humanities

Lisa Florman, professor, history of art, presents an Arts and Humanities Inaugural Lecture at 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, in the Faculty Club Grand Lounge. Florman's lecture, “The End of Tradition as Traditionally Conceived,” will explore the dramatic changes that artistic “tradition” underwent in the late-19th and early-20th centuries. She argues that understanding the relation of Picasso’s Demoiselles d’Avignon to earlier works of art (including works outside of the Western tradition) may also help us think through some of the complexities of the multicultural and transcultural work being produced today. Free, with reception to follow lecture. RSVP
