Hopkins Hall Gallery Summer Series: The Unoccupied Hand
Hopkins Hall Gallery Summer Series presents The Unoccupied Hand by Michael Kellner.Michael Kellner's installation The Unoccupied Hand visualizes the first four of Bach's fifteen Inventions, pieces of music that are known to test piano students' technical ability. The visualization, while silent, conveys the effort required to master a piece of music. The title of the piece alludes to the editor's note of caution to the performer to rest in a ready position, our inability to capture and hold the experience of sound due to its ephemeral nature, and the religious proclamation that "idle hands" are the province of the devil. On view June 24 - July 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.Reception: June 26 from 3 to 4 p.m.
