The GradSem formed in 2005 to meet this objective. The group meets monthly for a student-organized program. The February meeting will take the form of a workshop led by William Sturkey on literacy campaigns and initiatives. Sturkey is an historian of Modern American, African American and Southern History with a particular research focus on race in the American South, working-class African American communities and the Civil Rights Movement. He earned his PhD at Ohio State and is now a postdoctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina. For more information, visit the Literacy Studies @ OSU website.
