Event Host: Decisions Sciences Collaborative

Pascal Sheeran, University of North Carolina, is a leading expert in how to bridge the gap between intentions and behaviors to promote improved health behaviors. His talk, "From Health Beliefs to Behavior Change", is part of a jointly sponsored seminar series by the Behavioral Decision Making Initiative (Social and Behavioral Science in the College of Arts and Sciences), College of Dentistry, and the College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences.

Abstract: This talk will discuss three questions: (1) What health messages, or combinations of health messages, promote behavior change? (2) How can receptiveness to health messages be enhanced? and (3) How can message reception be better translated into health actions? Findings from randomized controlled trials on medication adherence, attendance for psychotherapy, and teen pregnancy prevention will be presented.
