Why did you pick Ohio State?
My dad went to Ohio State, so when my twin sister and I were visiting colleges we decided to check it out because he had told us so many stories about it. When we first got to campus, it was kind of love at first sight. It had everything we were looking for, a true college experience.
Why did you choose to study communication?
To be honest, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I had this idea that I wanted to get into PR, so I chose a strategic communication major. I also was on the road to minor in film and television, which I realized was more what I wanted to do, but was a credit short and about to graduate, so I never got my minor degree.
How did you get your job at BuzzFeed?
I started reading BuzzFeed randomly one day and thought it was really funny. About a month later I saw a video internship position open. I decided to apply, even though I had barely any experience in video. I somehow got the internship, and after about two to three months, I got hired on full time to be a part of the edit team. Now it has been six years.
What's it like working at BuzzFeed?
Working at BuzzFeed is probably more difficult than people think. My brain is always trying to come up with new ideas and be creative, but it’s great. I’ve made some of my closest friends since I’ve worked here and we have a great mix of fun and work. A big part of working here is talking about things out loud, hearing everyone’s opinions, brainstorming , and of course a little bit of fun.
What has been your most memorable experience while working at BuzzFeed?
I mean, a lot has happened in the past six years, so it’s hard to pick one memorable thing. There’s always something happening here. One time I wrote an article that gained a lot of popularity and someone turned me into a little cartoon internet video. Also, I got to go to the Golden Globes and the Oscars. Truly insane and awesome experiences.
How has your Ohio State education and ASC education set you up for success in your role?
I think Ohio State helped me develop into the person that I am today. I think finding my own voice came out of everything I did there.
