Lauren is a 2002 OSU graduate who received her degree in International Studies (specializing in International Relations). Lauren currently works as a Foreign Service Office Manager for the U.S. Department of State in Lilongwe, Malawi.     In her role Lauren supports Department personnel and offices including coordinating and requesting meetings, preparations for meetings, arranging travel, and processing expenses. She handles planning on events, tracking the budget and expenses, monitoring and ordering event supplies, and serving as event control officer. She coordinates with various offices for briefing materials, processing meeting notes, maintaining procedure manuals and web pages, and updating documents on the web sites. She also supervises staff, write evaluations/performance reviews, maintain databases and support temporary duty staff, provides computer software support, maintain and develop tracking and tasking systems, and support electronic records systems. Additionally Lauren supports emergency response processes, handles work orders, handles the office supply budget as well as ordering and maintaining tracking of those supplies. Lauren is also tasked with learning cultural norms for where she is posted, developing professional relationships with colleagues at other Embassies and local host government levels.     Besides her specific job Lauren will talk about the 8 Major Specialist Categories in Administration, Construction Engineering, Facility Management, Information Technology, International Information and English Language Programs, Medical and Health, Office Management, and Law Enforcement and Security, and the Foreign Service Officer 5 career tracks consisting of Consular Officers, Economic Officers, Political Officers, Management Officers, and Public Diplomacy Officers.     This is a can't miss event for any student interested in government work and/or international relations!
