September 14, 2017
All Day
Enarson Classroom Building 160 (2009 Millikin Road)

Time: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Event Host: Office of International Affairs, East Asian Studies Center and China Global Gateway

Mentoring is a concept that does not exist in East Asian terms, but it is rooted in the pathway for success in western academic culture. In this workshop, Karen Mancl - a professor in the Department of Food, Agricultural and Biological Engineering, graduate of the Interdisciplinary MA in East Asian Studies program at Ohio State and recipient of the 2017 College of Engineering Faculty Mentoring Award - will speak about her research on this disconnect and explain its origins and prevalence in U.S. universities. Mancl will also explain faculty mentorship models and their applications, including her whole life mentorship model and how to apply it to East Asian faculty members. This workshop is open to all faculty members.
