Are we in an age of new horror? To kick off the Halloween season, please join the Gateway Film Center for a conversation about three recent horror movies from around the world: Jordan Peele's "Us" (2019), Jennifer Kent's "The Babadook" (2014), and Luca Guadagnini's "Suspiria" (2018). The panelists, who all work on horror cinema in their fields of study, will be discussing how these films depict important socio-cultural issues today such as racism, religion, and family. As Jordan Peele once said, "all great horror has a social message of some sort... it taps into something we're suppressing." The night's events will take place on Monday, October 21st in the Torpedo Room at the Gateway Film Center, beginning with a happy hour starting at 5:30pm, the discussion at 6:00pm, and a reception will follow at 7:00pm. No registration required, but seating is limited on a first come, first serve basis.
