Artists Rebecca Arday, Dustin Brinkman, Geren Heurtin, Erin Kearney, Shahid Khan, Bryan Ortiz, Kristen Phipps, Maggie Schmiegelow, Lydia Smith, Nalani Stolz, Karen Tharp, Jonathan Vega and Mitch Vicieux present Proximity, the third year MFA thesis exhibition. Proximity lays bare themes of labor, tenderness, ritual, perception and possession. Though we have experienced both dense and sparse proximity to one another, the potency of our studio routines and the elasticity of making from home have transformed each of our approaches to this show. Our practices have all embraced various forms of adaptation — some reverted to home-based materials and present-day narratives while others returned to their central process and guiding questions with higher resolve.
