Today it is commonplace for women to conduct fieldwork in Antarctica. However, that has not always been the case. In 1969, researchers from Ohio State's Institute of Polar Studies (now the Byrd Polar and Climate Research Center) comprised the U.S.'s first all-woman science team to work in Antarctica.  The team members were Lois M. Jones, the leader of the party, Kay L. First women science team to Antarctica
