EEOB Professor Authors Book on Darwin's Family

Tim Berra, professor emeritus of evolution, ecology and organismal biology (Mansfield), is the author of the new book Darwin & His Children: His Other Legacy (2013, Oxford University Press).

A longtime Darwin enthusiast turned biographer, Berra grew curious about the Darwin children while researching Charles Darwin: The Concise Story of an Extraordinary Man, published in 2009.

While much has been written about the life and works of Charles Darwin, the lives of his ten children remain largely unexamined. Most "Darwin books" consider his children as footnotes to the life of their famous father and close with the death of Charles Darwin. This is the only book that deals substantially with the lives of his children from their birth to their death, each in his or her own chapter.

Berra is the author of over 75 scientific papers and six books including Evolution and the Myth of Creationism, published by Stanford University Press in 1990. His book, Charles Darwin: The Concise Story of an Extraordinary Man, was published by Johns Hopkins University Press in 2009 and features 60 b/w illustrations and 16 color plates.

Berra is the former editor of The Ohio Journal of Science. He was also the ichthyological book review editor of Copeia, the journal of the American Society of Ichthyologists and Herpetologists. He is university professorial fellow at Charles Darwin University, Austrailia, and a fellow of the Linnean Society.
