The Buckeye Language Network is hosting a grand opening event from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, August 30, at COSI to unveil its new lab space. The new LANGUAGE POD allows for more engagement with the public in language research.
Visitors to the science center can watch research in progress and participate in experiments themselves. The new lab benefits researchers by providing access to the diverse pool of COSI visitors who can act as research subjects, and the lab's public nature may open doors to new grant funding opportunities. The pod will be outfitted with four research stations, each targeting a different area of language research: language production, on-line language processing, language judgments, and language acquisition.
Graduate and undergraduate students in the College of Arts and Sciences and other university areas will provide educational explanations to COSI visitors addressing what issue the researcher is studying, how the researcher doing his/her study, why the researcher is studying this part of language, and how we ask and answer questions scientifically.
